Course Contents
The professional hoof trimming course consists of a mix of both practical and theory. The ten course participants from all over the country firstly cover the basics of hoof trimming and ‘The 5-Step Dutch Method.’ A combination of theory and practical trimming allows participants to take what they learn from the on-site classroom and put it to practice on cows. The practical covers a wide range, from routine foot-trimming, to common lesions of the foot. Grinder safety and knife-sharpening are also at the forefront of practical training. You can find more details on the training section of our website.
We have the practical aspect of the course well equipped with Eko Hoofcare supplying three hoof trimming chutes for the week. Participants trimmed cows in an Ekochute Manual, an Ekochute Electro, and a Wopa 39 manual chute. This allowed candidates to gain trimming experience in a variation of machines.
What Will You Learn from Our Professional Hoof Trimming Courses?
By the end of the week the course participants found themselves familiar with the 5-step Dutch method. They could also identify and treat common lesions of the foot. They gained a good grasp of knife sharpening as well as basic grinder safety and use. After the first week, candidates fill out evaluation forms. We will then set up a Whatsapp group chat to allow a good flow of communication and discussion among trainers and particiapants. We will also set dates for the next stage of the professional course. A 2-day check event in the coming months.
