EkoPro Glue is Eko Hoofcare’s own-brand glue for attaching hoof blocks to lame cattle. It is designed to stick with confidence when applying a wide range of wooden blocks, as well as TP blocks.

EkoPro glue is formulated for a rapid cure time. It is ideal in all temperatures, with an average set time of 25 seconds. You do not require a hotbox for using EkoPro Glue, however mild heat is recommended.

Why Do I need to Apply a Hoof Block?

Applying a block plays a vital role in the treatment of lame cattle. A hoof block is the best way to treat a wide range of lameness issues among cattle. These include sole ulcers, white line infections and necrotic toes. They also help to relieve bruising.

Failure to address chronic lameness can result in irreversible damage. This can result in premature culling and increased herd cost.

You will reduce weight on the casualty claw by using a hoof block. The block elevates the injury from the ground, allowing time for the issue to heal. Therefore the hoof block provides the lame cow with the mobility she needs until her claw recovers.

We prefer and recommend wooden blocks, as they wear down naturally over time. These transfer weight gradually back to the casualty claw resulting in a more controlled recovery.

How do I apply a Hoof Block?

With the correct procedure and routine, hoof blocks can be easy and quick to apply. Preparation is key. The claw should be clean and dry to allow for maximum sticking potential. Here are the 4 main steps:

1. Firstly, the claw should be lightly tracked in two directions, with the edge of a trimming knife. This increases the surface area for the glue to stick.
2. Remove moisture by applying light heat to both the claw and the block. Be careful not to over- heat.
3. Using EkoPro glue and a fresh mixer tip, apply an even layer of glue to the block. Without delay, position and place the block on the claw. Do not squeeze the claw in place, as it will disperse the glue.
4. As the glue begins to set, check the levels and positioning. Apply light heat to accelerate the cure time if desired.
